Dear Addie,

And then it happened.

After almost fourteen months of an illness that brought chaos into an already chaotic life, we finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

Just as June 3, 2025, will forever be burned into my memory, so will July 31, 2026. But instead of feeling like it was seared into me by a hot iron, it felt as though someone had painted it in watercolor…soft, gentle, full of joy and hope. A date that marked not the beginning of fear, but the quiet arrival of healing.

There were so many days I stood in what felt like defeat, but not you. The reoccurring question of why couldn't I just fix this? Why are the answers just not there? Those “why” questions and many others have made for so many sleepless nights over the past year. I would have given anything to switch places with you, to take it all away, to carry every ounce of the burden myself, but I couldn't. None of us could.

Even on your sickest days, you showed just how strong you were. You refused to accept this was gonna be your new normal. When everything around you tried to convince you it was, you kept fighting with a quiet determination that inspired everyone who witnessed it. Your strength wasn't measured by the absence of illness or pain, but by your resolve to keep moving forward despite them.

Fourteen months later, the healing seems to have finally begun, and while we are not naïve to a risk of set backs, we will be here embracing and celebrating every ounce of joy this next chapter brings.

So happy to see you finally feeling better and that infectious smile back in action.

Love,

Mom
