Peachy Keen

Dear Addie,

Yesterday, we went to the grocery store, where I purchased a few fresh peaches for a recipe I planned to make today. We came home, and I washed them and freely tossed them into the fruit drawer with your apples and oranges.

Fast-forward to today (surely you see where this is going)…you went to grab an apple but mistakenly grabbed a peach instead. A fruit, respectfully, you've never been interested in and always turn your nose up at when offered. I tried to tell you it was a peach, but perhaps having a stereotypical teenage moment, you weren’t super interested in hearing me out. You settled into your comfy spot on the couch, determined to enjoy your snack, which you apparently had just chalked up to being some sort of fuzzy apple, so Dad and I sat back and watched, waiting to see what you thought. And, of course, the moment you took that first bite, your face told us everything. 😂

Your face immediately scrunched up as you tried to recognize the juicy sweetness you had just tasted. It was clearly not the apple you thought you had grabbed, but instead of retreating and putting a partially eaten, sticky peach back in the fruit drawer, Lord knows that would've been a pretty accurate given, you went back in for another bite…and then another…and another.

Before long, you were happily enjoying that peach, completely unfazed by this unexpected fruit surprise. Dad and I just looked at each other and smiled, watching you discover something new all on your own.

Addie, the great Albert Einstein, once said:

“A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”

I know you are a creature of habit and familiarity, but it’s when we step outside our comfort zones, whether on purpose or simply by mistake, that we discover new things we like and dislike. Sometimes, the sweetest little surprises come from the moments we never planned for.

Peaches for the win! Great job Ad!

Love,

Mom
